Emerging evidence has linked exposure to sunbeds, to an increased risk of skin cancer, including melanoma. It is a myth that using sunbeds is better for your skin that tanning in the sun and that they are less damaging. You are more at risk of skin cancer the more often you use sunbeds, and the younger you start using them. While there are more stringent restrictions around the use of sunbeds and their upkeep, they are still available.

Exposure to sunbeds before the age of 30, increases your risk of melanoma by 75%. Beauty salons and magazines appeal to our vanity, and promote that a tanned body reflects a healthy lifestyle, which in fact could not be further from the truth. This image needs to change and if you do feel the need to look tanned, try one of the many tanning lotions on the market. Skin cancer, including melanoma can be prevented by protecting your skin with clothing and sunscreens and this too is the best anti-aging advice we can give you. If you have used sunbeds then you need to remember to be extra vigilant with your skin care and skin checks.
