What happens at a skin check?

What happens at a skin check?

We are in the midst of a big battle to reduce our alarmingly high skin cancer rates in NZ. The message is getting through, but still people are hesitant about having skin checks, or unsure who should do them. There are many options, from your GP through to your dermatologist. You can book directly with our dermatologist Dr Amy Stanway, or one of our plastic surgeons, for your skin check. The three of them work closely together, meaning comprehensive treatment for you. They will ask if you have any freckles or moles of concern, and then do a thorough examination of each of them - from top to toe, including between your toes and in your scalp. You will be asked to wear a gown and rest assured, you will feel comfortable at all times. A followup skin check is advised annually, or if you have something that needs to be treated or removed, this will be scheduled immediately. Get on the phone and make that appointment - it could save your life.
