Cover them up!

Cover them up!

Hats and sunscreen? Check! But what about sunglasses? It's a great idea to get your precious little people used to doing all three of these in order to protect them from our sun's harmful rays. Yes, we know it's not always easy to keep those hats and sunglasses in the right place, sometimes little people think it's a great game to remove them. But ensuring hats are comfortable, not too tight or with scratchy inside bands, and that glasses are good quality, not too heavy and don't distort vision, goes a long way to success. Wearing hats and sunglasses yourself encourages children to think that this is the norm, no questions asked.

Protecting your children and grandchildren from sun damage while they are young, is doing them a huge favour and could in fact be a life saving changing action. Sunburn as a child can double your risk of skin cancer in later years. So keep an extra hat handy, in the back of the buggy, the car and in school and pre-school bags. Make sure glasses have quality lenses and include your child in their purchase - there are huge varieties to choose from now, available at a range of retail outlets and optometrists. And remember, if you notcie an unusual spot on your child's skin, have it checked - it's always best to err on the side of caution.
